Part 1
Part 2
Nineteen year old Shayla Jackson stood at the front of the big cruise ship, her strawberry-blonde hair blowing in the wind. As she slipped her D&G sunglasses on, Shayla smiled to herself, knowing she would remember this moment for years to come. She was happy. Truly happy.
"Excuse me, miss," said a deep voice from behind her.
She whirled around to face a young man, about twenty years old, who looked like he could be an Abercrombie model.
"Yes?" she grinned.
"The captain has asked that everyone go below the deck. Something went wrong with the ship," he explained.
Shayla gasped. Scenes from the Titanic movie were swimming around in her head, and she had to bite her lip to keep from screaming.
"Oh.. okay, thank you," she said quietly, and went below the deck to join the others.
There was about a hundred people down there; moms, dads, children, teens, and young adults like herself. There were even toddlers and grandparents.
Everyone stopped talking as the captain entered the room, delivering the news that everyone wanted but hated to hear.-~*~-
Danika Blake stood on the boat's wooden floors as the captain spoke.
"At this moment we don't know exactly what happened, but something went wrong." His voice boomed through the ship. "We may be in danger, or it may be nothing at all. We'll keep you updated."
He climbed the stairs to the deck of the ship.
For a brief second, none of the hundred or so people spoke. Then there was a low murmur of voices once everyone realized their lives could be in danger.
Danika Blake had come on the boat to escape her parents. They were snobby and high-class and she was... fun.
If she died here, would anyone know?
Would anyone look for her?
Or... would she die alone?
Shut up Danika, she said to herself. You're not going to die.
But she had a hard time convincing herself of that.-~*~-
Meghan Coulter looked around for a familiar face. Where's Daddy? She wondered.
She sighed and flopped down on a couch below the deck of the ship. Kicking her feet up beside her, she wondered what the fate of this ship was. What had happened? How much danger were they in?
Suddenly Meghan felt something heavy land on her feet. She grunted.
"Ouch!" said a girl's voice.
"Thanks for sitting on my foot, bi-atch." Meghan said, grouchily.
"Um, accident. Wow, someone's grumpy today," said the girl, and she started to walk away.
"Well of course I'm not happy right now!" Meghan yelled after her. "We're probably sinking!"
The girl turned to Meghan and said, "Some of us have bigger problems on top of that."
"Uh, yeah. Like someone sitting on my foot!" Meghan snapped.
"I'm Danika Blake. Nice to meet you, Miss Ignorant Rich Bitch." With that, the girl walked away.
Meghan was steaming mad.
No one had ever dared talk to her like that before.
And now this Danika chick was thinking she's all that?
No way is Meghan gonna let that slide.
She got up from the couch and walked swiftly, catching up to Danika.
"You think you have me all figured out? Well here's you. You think you're so different from all us people with money. But, get your head out of the clouds sweetie, because you're not! You're as worried about sinking and losing your life as I am. You're trying to sound selfless but all you want to think about is you!" Meghan snarled.
"We met two minutes ago. You can't pretend you know me." Danika said through clenched teeth, clearly offended.
"Right back atcha', darling." Meghan said. She turned on her heel and walked away.-~*~-
Shayla held onto the railing of the ship, trying to hide her tears. Lighting cracked and hit the water, and the thunder roared. Rain poured down in buckets, as if it was threatening to drown the ship.
This was the storm of a lifetime, and the captain looked worried.
"Stay calm, everyone," he yelled, "We'll get on the lifeboats."
The crew started pushing and shuffling everyone. A middle-aged guy grabbed Shayla's shoulders and directed her to the lifeboats.
Next thing she knew, Shayla's lifeboat was being lowered into the water with two other girls about her age. They were glaring at each other instead of being worried about the situation.
"Um, excuse me?" said Shayla, "Are you guys having a little catfight or something?"
"Screw off," said the blonde one.
The brunette laughed. "She can't! If you haven't noticed, Miss Ignorant, we're on a lifeboat being lowered to our deaths!"
"We're not going to die, for sure--" Shayla tried to say.
"Well, Danika," said the blonde, "This isn't a picnic, can you see why I'm a little unhappy right now?"
Danika glared at the blonde.
Suddenly there was a crack of lightning, and the big cruise ship began to sink.
"Oh my god!" Shayla yelled.
"Whatever, we're on a lifeboat. We're safe," said the blonde.
Danika snorted.
"What?" said blondie.
"We're far from safe, Meghan. Far from safe."
Part 2
Meghan woke up pissed. Her little brother had gotten sand in her bed again! That little rat!
"Moooooom!" Meghan yelled.
She sat up and wiped her eyes.
"MOM!" she yelled again.
She flopped back down on her bed.
Where was her pillow?
"UGH!" she screamed, and opened her eyes.
She looked around, and her mouth dropped open in shock. She let out a scream.
It echoed through the desert island she was currently marooned on.
Panic set in. I'm going to die! I can't even go camping, how am I going to survive? I'm so alone! she worried.
A tear fell across her cheek, but she quickly wiped it away.
"Great," she said, realizing she had left a streak of sand on her face.
She was at a loss of what to do next, but decided she better get an idea of where she was.
She stood up and looked at the island.
Meghan had been washed up on a small corner of the island. There were no trees in this approximately ten square feet area.
Beside there was much more land which had many tropical trees.
Meghan saw a flash of color on the other side of the island. And was that... a human? She wasn't alone!
She squealed and pulled off her Jimmy Choos.
Grabbing her heels and carrying them, she ran towards where she had seen someone.
She was panting and sweating by the time she got there, but she didn't care.
"Hello?" she called out.
Meghan had arrived at a circular patch that was cleared of trees. The circle of sand was bordered by tropical plants.
"Anyone here?" she asked again.
She heard some bushes rustling, and smiled.
Her heart sank when she saw who it was.-~*~-
"Wow, you sure don't seem pleased to see me," Danika said to Meghan.
"Whatever," Meghan said, "Where are we anyway?"
Danika chuckled. "How would I know?"
"Um, I don't know, Google Maps or something?"
"You're pathetic," Danika said.
Meghan glared at her, and Danika rolled her eyes.
Both girls turned towards the ocean. They saw someone wading through the water towards the shore.
[More soon.]
